As an autoimmune disease, multiple sclerosis can be distinguished into five different types which people may receive. Each type has a different percentage rate in which someone may receive it. Also, whether the suffer receives long term or short term effects purely relies on what type of multiple sclerosis they have. The amount of relapses the sufferer experiences also determines which type of multiple sclerosis they have. These five types of multiple sclerosis are Relapsing-remitting MS, Benign MS, Primary Progressive MS, Secondary Progressive MS or Progressive MS.
One type of multiple sclerosis which is only diagnosed in children is called “Childhood MS”. It consists of much minor symptoms that are not usually recognised. These symptoms usually occur insignificantly and quickly pass away. Because of these minor symptoms, this type of multiple sclerosis is often mistaken for other similar diseases which have the same symptoms for example, Acute Demyelinating Encephalomyelitis. Many people deny the fact that children may receive multiple sclerosis however; research has shown that multiple sclerosis can occur in both adults and children. When children receive multiple sclerosis, this may impact their education. Children with this defect are permitted with extra allocated time for tests and exams and they are assisted heavily by teachers. They may feel depressed in everyday life and may feel as if they are to blame for having multiple sclerosis.
