Secondary-progressive MS occurs in about 40% of multiple sclerosis sufferers and follows shortly after a sufferer experiences 5 – 20 years of Relapsing-remitting MS. It is usually diagnosed by sufferers when they are 40 years of age. Whilst symptoms of relapsing-remitting MS occurs in wide intervals, secondary-progressive MS befalls much more constantly and repetitively. Usually, in other types of multiple sclerosis, recovery is usually taken after symptoms occur. However, with this type of multiple sclerosis, there isn’t enough time for recovery to complete after a symptom and therefore, the disease generally becomes worse with only minor remissions.
