Benign MS has been proven to occur in 10% - 20% of multiple sclerosis sufferers and is a type of disease which does not worsen during time or develop any permanent disabilities. Its a much minor type of multiple sclerosis and consists of small relapses followed by much longer remissions. This type of multiple sclerosis may also appear to be inactive since the sufferer would be free of symptoms for a long time. Benign MS normally occurs after the sufferer had experienced relapsing-remitting MS and usually develops in a sufferer 10 - 15 years after they have had multiple sclerosis without any clear disabilities or symptoms. After developing benign MS, 50% of sufferers would soon develop to progressive MS.
