If people suffering from multiple sclerosis experience significant weakness, their life would be impacted and restricted. Obviously, exercising to the point which leads to fatigue won’t help the sufferer. So instead, sufferers would do minor exercises to train muscle groups. Occasionally, people suffering from this are required to use an ‘Odstock Drop Foot Stimulator’ which allows the sufferer to gain strength to walk. It operates with an electrode on the heel of the foot and when it is stepped on, it stimulates the muscle that lifts the foot. This technique to aid difficulties in walking is considered to be much effective than a wheelchair because wheelchairs may not provide support and prevent against pain.
Numbness is not a disabling symptom, rather it is a bothersome one which may irritate the sufferer. It can be prevented by exercising to improve blood circulation, flexing limbs, performing minor repetitive movements in limbs, or squeezing a stress ball. Exercising for example can prevent against disabling symptoms because it is much harder for disabilities hit a moving target compared to an inactive one.
