Cognitive functions of the body are memory, judgement, planning and so on. However, to be capable of these functions, nerves must be consisted of abundant myelin. To be able to cope with these functions, transportation of nerve impulses must be efficient enough to travel back and forth in the brain and side to side in the brain. However, without the myelin around the nerves to assist this action, the ability to remember or communicate is abolished. These simple functions are affected in 50%-55% of multiple sclerosis sufferers. 10%-15% of people who suffer cognitive difficulties have trouble in managing at workplaces and have decreased job performance. More severe cognitive difficulties may even lead to a state where the sufferer is not aware that they have the condition.
